Community Engagement

Centre for Excellence in Professional Accounting

Thanks to the incredible support from our generous donors, we have the privilege of creating extraordinary learning opportunities for our students, supporting thought leadership, and building opportunities for our students to engage with the accounting community. We are grateful to our dedicated alumni and other invaluable advisors and partners whose contributions have played a pivotal role in shaping the remarkable success of the accounting program at the Haskayne School of Business

If you are an alumni seeking to contribute and engage with the Haskayne School of Business by sharing your expertise and experience with our accounting students, we encourage you to learn more about our Accounting Student Skills Development Committee, our mentorship opportunities, or classroom speaking opportunities. We want to host guest speakers in over 50 per cent of our accounting classes, and welcome accountants to share their professional expertise with our students.

Ongoing Support of CPA Alberta

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to CPA Alberta for their unwavering support and dedication to the accounting field. CPA Alberta has been a valued partner in our journey toward academic and professional excellence. Their continued commitment has been instrumental in fostering excellence in our accounting program and empowering students to thrive in the real-world business landscape.

Furthermore, we would like to express our profound appreciation for their generous donation towards the establishment of the CPA Commons Area in Mathison Hall. This space will undoubtedly serve as a hub for collaboration, innovation, and professional growth, creating a lasting impact on our student's educational experience and their future careers.

The support of the CPA Education Foundation towards the accounting program extends far beyond financial donations. The organization has actively engaged in various activities, enriching the educational experience of students and faculty by providing invaluable insights into the latest trends in accounting. CPA Alberta is dedicated to fostering knowledge exchange and preparing our students for successful careers in the accounting profession.

Paving the Way for Indigenous Students

The Centre for Excellence in Professional Accounting is committed to fostering diversity, inclusivity, and belonging for our accounting students. Recognizing the importance of diverse representation and perspectives in the accounting profession, we are working to build friendships with Indigenous communities to better understand how we can make the Haskayne accounting program more inclusive. As part of the early stages of our relationship building, we recently held a smudging ceremony (March 2023) and welcomed the wisdom of Elder Doreen Spence as a keynote at our annual conference (June 2023). Moreover, one of our esteemed faculty members (Anita Lakra) prepared an Indigenous case study to promote EDI discussions in her accounting classroom. We are equally committed to aligning with both Haskayne and the University's broader Indigenous strategy and supporting the CPA's diversity efforts. Together, we will shape a more equitable and vibrant future for accounting education and practice.
